In this state, he became a mindless engine of destruction, a literal metamorphosis reminiscent of the Kafkaesque literature he loved, where the insect served as both a symbol of his monstrous alienation and his iron-willed resolve to crawl forward through any pain. Ultimately, the Centipede story is one of tragic irony: to survive a world that treated him like vermin, Kaneki had to adopt the very instrument of his torture, transforming his deepest scar into his most lethal weapon.
