After murdering his father and destroying his own homeland, he traveled to Northrend to merge with the Lich King, becoming the ultimate master of the undead. His reign of terror ended atop Icecrown Citadel, where he was defeated by the heroes of Azeroth, finally dying as the darkness he created consumed him.
