Meet Talia Grant — The Shield of Dominion

Meet Talia Grant — The Shield of Dominion

Zenpai Association

Some people step away when something dangerous starts moving toward them.

Talia Grant usually does the opposite.

She steps:

in front of it.

Long before her body was reconstructed into something capable of absorbing forces that should crush a human being, Talia had already built her life around one simple instinct.

When people were trapped...

she went back.

When somebody froze...

she moved.

When something started collapsing...

Talia looked for the people still underneath it.

She never considered that heroic.

To her, being stronger than the person beside you came with an obvious responsibility.

If you could take the hit...

why should they?

That belief eventually caught the attention of one of the most physically dominant branches within Bao Si’s hierarchy.

And after accepting its power, Talia Grant became:

The Shield

Before Reconstruction

Talia Grant was not born into Bao Si’s hierarchy.

She was not raised for combat.

She did not grow up expecting supernatural power.

Talia worked in:

emergency response.

Industrial accidents.

Collapsed structures.

Machinery failures.

Fires.

Hazardous facilities.

Disaster zones.

Situations where everybody else was trying to figure out how to get out...

while Talia was being told somebody might still be inside.

She became accustomed to alarms.

Smoke.

Broken concrete.

Steel under pressure.

Radios full of overlapping voices.

And one sentence that always meant the situation had just become worse:

“We’re still missing someone.”

Talia hated that sentence.

Because once she heard it...

she was probably:

going back in.

The Person Who Went Back

Talia developed a reputation for something supervisors found both admirable and extremely frustrating.

She did not leave people behind easily.

If there was a realistic chance someone could still be reached...

Talia wanted:

one more attempt,

one more search,

one more entry,

one more route,

one more minute.

She understood procedure.

She respected safety.

She knew when a structure was unstable.

But she also knew what it felt like to stand outside a disaster while somebody’s family waited for an answer.

That made Talia difficult to stop.

She did not believe courage meant:

being unafraid.

She had been afraid plenty of times.

Courage meant:

going anyway when somebody else still needed you.

Strength Before Power

Talia was already physically imposing long before Reconstruction.

Tall.

Broad.

Exceptionally strong.

Years of demanding work had built a body capable of:

carrying equipment,

moving debris,

dragging injured people,

and operating in conditions that exhausted less experienced responders quickly.

But Talia never treated strength as decoration.

She did not care whether anyone thought she looked intimidating.

Strength had:

a purpose.

If a trapped worker could not move a collapsed beam...

Talia moved it.

If someone could not walk...

Talia carried them.

If a doorway had to remain open while everyone else escaped...

Talia stayed there.

Her attitude was simple:

If you have more strength, you have more responsibility.

That belief existed long before Tail VIII ever found her.

The Rescue Whistle

Talia still carries one object from her human life.

An old:

Emergency Rescue Whistle

It is scratched.

The finish is worn.

There are newer communication systems.

Better alarms.

Spiritual links.

Technology capable of sending warnings across enormous distances.

Talia does not need the whistle anymore.

She keeps it anyway.

Before Reconstruction, that sound meant something.

Inside smoke.

Inside collapsed buildings.

Inside places where visibility had disappeared.

A whistle meant:

somebody was looking for you.

It meant:

someone was coming.

Talia remembers that.

She refuses to let the object become meaningless simply because she no longer needs it.

The Offer

Talia eventually came to the attention of:

Tail VIII — The Challenger

The Tail representing:

Dominion

Strength.

Authority.

Enforcement.

Control.

The ability to protect what belongs within the hierarchy.

But Tail VIII did not choose Talia because she enjoyed controlling people.

She did not.

It did not choose her because she was cruel.

She wasn’t.

And it did not choose her because she wanted greater status.

That mattered very little to her.

What caught Tail VIII’s attention was:

how Talia used strength.

She repeatedly placed herself between danger and people who could not withstand it themselves.

To Tail VIII...

that was still Dominion.

Not conquest.

Not intimidation.

But:

responsibility backed by enough power to make that responsibility meaningful.

Talia was offered a body capable of protecting people on a scale her human body never could.

Greater strength.

Greater durability.

Greater regenerative ability.

The capacity to absorb impacts that would kill ordinary responders instantly.

Enough power to become:

the barrier

instead of merely searching for one.

There was a price.

Talia understood that.

And accepted.

Becoming a Direct Underling

Talia did not receive a minor enhancement.

Tail VIII invested a substantial amount of reconstructive material and spiritual power into her.

Her body changed.

Muscle density increased.

Bones became dramatically stronger.

Regeneration accelerated.

Her nervous system adapted.

Pain tolerance shifted.

Her physical limits moved into a category that could no longer reasonably be described as human.

But Talia herself remained.

Her memories remained.

Her compassion remained.

Her stubbornness remained.

Her instinct to step in front of danger remained.

What changed was:

how much danger she could survive.

Talia Grant became:

Direct Underling VIII-B

The second major operational branch beneath Dominion.

Her position:

The Shield

What “The Shield” Means

The Shield is not primarily responsible for controlling territory.

Marcus Briggs already represents that expression of Dominion.

Talia’s responsibility is different.

She protects:

the people inside it.

Workers.

Communities.

Facilities during emergencies.

Reconstructed personnel.

Strategic populations.

Other Underlings.

People placed under Dominion’s protection.

Where The Warden asks:

“What must remain ours?”

The Shield asks:

“Who must survive?”

That difference defines almost everything about Talia.

Institutional Dominion

Talia represents:

Institutional Dominion

Dominion expressed through protection of the group.

The principle is not simply:

control them.

It is:

take responsibility for them.

Talia can operate within:

industrial corporations

worker communities

public infrastructure

emergency-response organizations

transportation systems

large facilities

protected districts

disaster-recovery operations

She is particularly effective in organizations where authority becomes meaningful during crisis.

People may distrust executives.

They may distrust regulators.

They may distrust corporate promises.

But the person who physically enters a collapsing structure to pull them out?

That person earns something much harder to manufacture.

Trust.

The Shelter

Talia operates from a Dominion-controlled emergency operations compound known simply as:

The Shelter

The name is straightforward.

Talia likes it that way.

The Shelter functions as:

an emergency-response center,

medical staging area,

reinforced safe zone,

equipment depot,

temporary housing facility,

and protected command post.

People injured during Dominion operations may be brought there.

Workers evacuated from dangerous locations may stay there.

Damaged equipment is assessed there.

Emergency teams deploy from there.

Certain areas are restricted.

Others remain intentionally open.

Unlike Marcus’s Yard, which feels like a place built around securing assets...

The Shelter feels like somewhere designed around:

keeping people alive.

Rules of The Shelter

Talia’s rules are simple.

Know where the exits are.

Report injuries.

Do not hide symptoms.

Do not ignore evacuation orders.

Do not block emergency routes.

Do not abandon somebody because saving them became inconvenient.

And if Talia tells you:

“Move.”

you move.

Most people only need to learn that last rule:

once.

Last Line

Talia’s most recognizable equipment is a unified defensive system known as:

Last Line.

The system consists of two major components:

a massive reinforced Tower Shield

and

a pair of Heavy Impact Gauntlets.

The Tower Shield is the centerpiece.

The gauntlets allow Talia to:

brace it,

catch incoming force,

intercept attacks,

and continue fighting if an enemy manages to get around it.

Together...

they form a defensive system designed around one principle:

nothing reaches the people behind Talia without going through Talia first.

Why “Last Line”?

Talia was asked once why she chose the name.

Her answer was simple.

“Because if they reached me, there shouldn’t be anyone else behind me who has to take the hit.”

That is Last Line.

Not the first barrier.

Not the easiest barrier.

Not the safest option.

The:

final one.

When evacuation routes collapse...

when the perimeter fails...

when something breaks through...

when everyone else has run out of room...

there is still:

Talia Grant.

The Tower Shield

The primary component of Last Line is enormous.

A reinforced industrial:

Tower Shield.

Heavy.

Layered.

Broad enough to cover most of Talia’s body.

Wide enough to shelter people immediately behind her.

Its design follows the visual identity of Tail VIII’s Dominion branch.

Black.

Red.

Yellow-and-black caution markings.

The same warning colors appear across Talia’s gauntlets and protective armor.

The message is appropriate.

Talia herself is essentially:

a walking hazard barrier.

She does not carry the shield because she needs somewhere to hide.

She carries it because:

other people do.

Heavy Impact Gauntlets

The second half of Last Line is built around Talia’s hands.

Her reinforced gauntlets are designed for:

catching

blocking

bracing

shoving

striking

holding

reinforcing the shield

They allow Talia to physically interact with forces that would destroy ordinary hands and arms.

When something heavy begins falling...

Talia may simply:

catch it.

When something attempts to push past her...

the gauntlets help make sure it:

doesn’t.

And when an enemy believes getting around the Tower Shield solves the problem...

they discover Talia still has:

two very large hands.

Barrier Lock

One of Last Line’s primary defensive functions is:

Barrier Lock.

Talia plants the Tower Shield into position and braces her entire body behind it.

The shield’s lower structure locks against the surface.

Her boots plant.

The gauntlets engage the reinforced grips.

Talia lowers her center of gravity.

The system becomes less like a shield being held by a person...

and more like:

a temporary wall.

Barrier Lock dramatically improves Talia’s ability to resist:

knockback

charges

heavy impacts

projectile force

structural collapse

large enemies attempting to push through

And because Talia’s own Reconstruction already favors anchoring and impact resistance...

Last Line becomes considerably more effective in her hands than it would be in anyone else’s.

Impact Sink

Last Line’s shield is built from multiple reinforced layers designed to distribute incoming impact.

This function is known as:

Impact Sink.

Instead of allowing one point of the shield to absorb the entire force...

the structure spreads the load across:

the shield,

the reinforced frame,

Talia’s arms,

her shoulders,

her torso,

and eventually:

the ground beneath her.

The system does not eliminate force.

It manages it.

That distinction matters.

A strong enough attack can still:

bend the shield,

crack the floor,

injure Talia,

or force her backward.

But Last Line helps ensure that as little of that force as possible reaches:

the people behind her.

Brace Drive

The Heavy Impact Gauntlets contain reinforced locking points designed specifically for the Tower Shield.

When Talia activates:

Brace Drive

the gauntlets secure her grip and distribute incoming force through her forearms and upper body.

This makes it considerably harder for an attack to:

tear the shield away,

twist it out of position,

or knock Talia’s arms aside.

Brace Drive is especially important against impacts large enough that holding the shield normally would become impossible.

The enemy hits the shield.

The shield pushes into Talia.

The gauntlets lock.

Talia pushes back.

Emergency Cover

Last Line was designed around Talia’s rescue instincts.

That means it is not only useful during combat.

Talia can rapidly place the Tower Shield between:

danger

and

vulnerable people.

This function is known as:

Emergency Cover.

Incoming debris.

Explosions.

Collapsing structures.

Projectile attacks.

Sudden environmental hazards.

Talia can drop or position Last Line quickly enough to create a temporary protected zone behind it.

The shield is large enough for multiple people to:

shelter behind her.

Which is exactly where Talia wants them.

Shield Rush

Talia’s defense is not purely stationary.

When she needs to move people forward...

or move somebody else backward...

she uses:

Shield Rush.

Talia lowers Last Line.

Plants herself behind it.

And drives forward.

The shield becomes:

a moving barricade.

She can use Shield Rush to:

push enemies backward

break hostile formations

move through crowds

create an evacuation lane

drive dangerous objects away from civilians

force a path through obstructed areas

Talia is not particularly fast while doing it.

She does not need to be.

The important part is that once she starts moving...

stopping her becomes:

difficult.

Impact Counter

Last Line is primarily defensive.

That does not mean Talia cannot fight.

If an opponent slips around the shield...

the Heavy Impact Gauntlets provide her with:

Impact Counter.

Talia can:

punch,

shove,

grab,

catch,

redirect,

or grapple

at extremely close range.

She prefers using force to:

remove the threat from the protected area.

Sometimes that means throwing someone away from the people behind her.

Sometimes it means driving them into the floor.

Talia does not consider those outcomes contradictory.

More Than Human Strength

Even without entering Reconstruction Release, Talia possesses extraordinary physical ability.

Her Reconstruction strongly favors:

muscle density

structural durability

impact resistance

physical reinforcement

regeneration

stamina

pain tolerance

anchoring strength

Talia can lift debris that would normally require machinery.

Hold failing structures long enough for people to escape.

Absorb impacts that should throw her across a room.

Carry multiple injured people.

Remain operational while sustaining injuries severe enough to incapacitate most reconstructed beings.

But raw strength is not actually what makes Talia most dangerous.

What matters is:

where she chooses to stand.

Protective Force

Talia’s Reconstruction expresses Dominion through a specialized form of:

Protective Force.

She can reinforce her own reconstructed body when intercepting danger.

The effect becomes particularly powerful when another person is behind her.

Talia can redirect incoming physical and spiritual force through:

her arms,

shoulders,

torso,

legs,

Last Line,

and the ground beneath her.

Instead of allowing one point of impact to absorb everything...

her entire reconstructed frame shares the burden.

The result is a body that behaves less like flesh...

and more like:

structural reinforcement.

Last Line was built specifically to work with that ability.

Stand Behind Me

Talia’s defining supernatural ability is known as:

Stand Behind Me.

Through her spiritual lineage, Talia can designate nearby individuals as:

protected targets.

When those people are attacked...

part of the incoming force can be:

reduced

redirected

absorbed

or

transferred toward Talia

The greater the attack...

the greater the burden placed upon her.

The more people she protects...

the harder the ability becomes to maintain.

Talia can theoretically save an entire group from an attack that should overwhelm them.

But there is no free defense.

Someone still pays.

Usually:

Talia.

Last Line & Stand Behind Me

The equipment and the ability are not the same thing.

That distinction is important.

Last Line physically:

blocks,

absorbs,

redirects,

and controls impact.

Stand Behind Me spiritually connects Talia to the people she has chosen to protect.

Together...

they become much more effective.

An attack strikes Last Line.

Impact Sink distributes the force.

Brace Drive keeps the shield in position.

Protective Force spreads the burden through Talia’s reconstructed body.

Stand Behind Me reduces how much reaches the protected group.

The system is not invulnerability.

Talia can still:

bleed.

Break bones.

Lose ground.

Reach her limit.

But every layer exists for one purpose:

make sure the damage stops with her.

“Stay Behind Me.”

People who fight beside Talia eventually learn there is one phrase they should take seriously.

“Stay behind me.”

It does not mean:

Talia thinks you are weak.

It does not mean:

she wants glory.

It means:

she has already decided where the damage is going.

And she would prefer:

it reaches her.

Anchoring

When Talia fully commits to protecting a position...

moving her becomes dramatically more difficult.

She lowers her center of gravity.

Plants Last Line.

Barrier Lock engages.

The gauntlets brace.

Protective Force channels downward.

Muscles tense.

Boots lock into position.

The floor may crack.

Concrete may shift.

The shield may bend.

Talia may bleed.

But the people behind her remain:

behind her.

That is the point.

The Stronger the Attack

There is something unsettling about watching Talia absorb a powerful strike.

She does not immediately attack back.

She watches.

Feels the impact.

Measures how much moved through Last Line.

Checks whether the people behind her are still standing.

And sometimes...

she smiles.

Not because she enjoys seeing people hurt.

Because she just learned:

how hard the enemy can hit.

And if Last Line survived?

Then the enemy has a problem.

Reconstruction Release

Direct Underlings do not possess the complete Spiritual Form of a true Tail-Born.

Talia is not one of The Nine.

But like Marcus Briggs, she can allow more of the Tail-Born material inside her reconstructed body to express itself.

When ordinary strength becomes insufficient...

Talia enters:

Reconstruction Release

Her body changes.

Her arms become even more muscular.

Her physical presence grows heavier.

Her brown eyes ignite into a supernatural:

Golden-Yellow Amber.

Her canine teeth extend into visible fangs.

Her composed expression shifts into a confident, almost predatory smirk.

Black fur begins emerging from beneath her gauntlets and across her forearms.

And her long braided hairstyle changes.

Last Line During Reconstruction Release

Last Line itself does not transform.

Talia does.

As her reconstructed body becomes stronger...

the amount of force she can channel through the system increases dramatically.

Barrier Lock becomes harder to break.

Brace Drive can withstand greater impact.

Shield Rush becomes more difficult to stop.

Impact Counter becomes significantly more dangerous.

And Protective Force allows Talia to absorb amounts of damage that would overwhelm her restrained state.

The equipment was already designed around a powerful reconstructed body.

Reconstruction Release simply allows Talia to use:

more of what Last Line was built to handle.

The Black Fur Braids

Talia’s braids remain one of her most recognizable features even during Reconstruction Release.

The hairstyle does not disappear.

It does not become loose.

It does not transform into an entirely different shape.

Instead...

the braids become:

thicker.

darker.

heavier.

Their texture shifts toward something closer to dense reconstructed black fur while maintaining the same braided structure.

The result looks simultaneously familiar and unnatural.

Talia still looks like herself.

But the material forming part of that familiar silhouette no longer looks entirely human.

The same black fur appears beneath her gauntlets.

It does not grow over the equipment.

It emerges:

from underneath.

The reconstructed biology was always there.

Release simply allows more of it to show.

The Amber Eyes

Marcus Briggs develops glowing red eyes during Reconstruction Release.

Talia’s glow is different.

Her eyes become:

Golden-Amber.

Bright.

Warm.

Warning-colored.

Almost luminous enough to resemble hazard lights in darkness.

The effect becomes stronger as Talia channels greater amounts of Protective Force.

At lower output...

the eyes simply:

glow.

At extreme output...

they:

burn.

Combined with her fangs and smirk, the result can look surprisingly sinister for someone whose abilities revolve around protecting others.

Talia finds that:

amusing.

The Smirk

Talia’s expression during Reconstruction Release often unsettles people.

She smiles.

Not a warm smile.

Not exactly.

It is a confident:

fanged smirk.

People sometimes mistake it for cruelty.

Usually it means something simpler.

Talia has just realized:

the attack was not strong enough.

She knows how much force she can take.

She knows what is standing behind her.

And she knows the opponent has just committed to going through:

her.

That is when Talia starts enjoying herself.

Still Talia

Reconstruction Release does not erase Talia’s consciousness.

She does not become mindless.

She does not attack allies.

She does not lose control.

She does not become a berserk animal.

Talia remains:

Talia.

Same priorities.

Same instincts.

Same memories.

Same protective nature.

The fangs do not change who she is.

The fur does not change who she is.

The glowing eyes do not change who she is.

Reconstruction Release simply gives those instincts:

more power.

A Direct Underling Is Not a Tail

Someone encountering Talia in Reconstruction Release without understanding Bao Si’s hierarchy could easily mistake her for something near the top.

Tall.

Massively muscular.

Supernatural.

Fanged.

Amber-eyed.

Covered in reconstructed black fur.

Capable of absorbing extraordinary damage.

Able to protect entire groups.

That mistake would be understandable.

But Talia Grant is:

not Tail VIII.

She is one of Tail VIII’s:

Direct Underlings.

Her power is inherited.

Diluted.

A descendant expression of Dominion.

Which means every impossible thing Talia can do exists beneath something far greater.

If The Shield can stand against that much force...

the natural question becomes:

What exactly created her?

Talia & Tail VIII

Talia does not think of Tail VIII as someone requiring constant praise.

Their relationship is more practical than devotional.

Tail VIII gave Talia the ability to protect people on a scale she could never have achieved as an ordinary human.

Talia accepted that power.

She accepted the hierarchy attached to it.

And she accepted responsibility.

To her:

those things are connected.

She may disagree with decisions.

She may question methods.

She may become angry when people beneath Dominion are treated carelessly.

But Talia still believes that a structure powerful enough to protect people is worth preserving.

That belief keeps her:

inside the hierarchy.

The Covenant

Talia’s interpretation of Bao Si’s Fur Covenant differs slightly from Marcus’s.

Marcus focuses upon:

obligation.

Talia focuses upon:

responsibility.

If someone accepts supernatural strength, authority, longevity, or protection...

Talia believes that person has accepted responsibility alongside it.

Power should not be taken without purpose.

And protection should not be demanded while rejecting every obligation attached to the system providing it.

Her reasoning is not complicated.

If everybody wants the benefits of structure...

someone has to be willing to:

uphold it.

The Problem With Protection

Talia can do genuinely heroic things.

This is not deception.

She may save:

workers,

families,

children,

injured strangers,

other Underlings,

people who will never know what she actually is.

She does not require a reward.

She does not always require obedience first.

Sometimes someone is in danger...

and Talia:

helps them.

That is simply who she is.

The problem appears afterward.

Because Talia genuinely believes:

safety requires structure.

And structure requires:

authority,

rules,

responsibility,

enforcement.

She believes freedom without protection can become:

abandonment wearing a nicer name.

That is where her worldview begins colliding with Akai and the Core Five.

Why She Believes Bao Si’s System Works

Talia spent years watching ordinary institutions fail people.

Companies ignored warning signs.

Executives cut corners.

Emergency budgets disappeared.

Workers were treated as replaceable.

Communities waited for help that arrived late.

Sometimes...

help never arrived at all.

Then Talia encountered a hierarchy where authority was not theoretical.

When Bao Si’s system decides something must be protected...

it possesses the power to:

actually protect it.

Tail VIII can enforce.

Marcus can hold.

Talia can defend.

Underlings can respond.

Resources can be mobilized.

Consequences exist.

Talia looks at that system and sees something ordinary organizations often failed to provide:

accountability.

To her...

that matters.

Heroism Inside a Cage

Talia may be one of the most morally confusing people within the Dominion branch.

Because she can appear heroic.

And often:

she is.

She protects workers from exploitation.

She intervenes when someone abuses people placed beneath Dominion’s protection.

She rescues civilians.

She refuses to abandon wounded personnel.

She may stand against someone stronger than herself simply because weaker people are behind her.

The problem is that Talia’s definition of safety still exists inside Bao Si’s hierarchy.

She protects people.

But she also accepts the hierarchy deciding:

what freedom they are allowed to keep.

To Talia...

that compromise can be justified.

To Akai...

it may be exactly:

the problem.

Talia & Marcus Briggs

Talia and Marcus Briggs understand each other unusually well.

Both believe strength creates responsibility.

Both respect competence.

Both dislike excuses.

Both take assigned duties seriously.

And both are extremely difficult to physically move once they decide they are staying somewhere.

But their priorities are not identical.

Marcus protects:

the objective.

Talia protects:

the people.

If a Dominion facility begins collapsing while important equipment remains inside...

Marcus may immediately think about securing the critical asset.

Talia asks:

“Is everyone out?”

Marcus:

“The equipment matters.”

Talia:

“People first.”

They have had versions of this argument before.

They will have them again.

And somehow...

they still work extremely well together.

Hard Stop & Last Line

Their equipment reflects the same philosophical difference.

Marcus carries:

Hard Stop.

A massive chained spiked flail designed to control territory, deny movement, and prevent enemies from taking what Dominion claims.

Talia carries:

Last Line.

A Tower Shield and Heavy Impact Gauntlet system designed to protect the people standing inside that territory.

Hard Stop says:

You are not getting through.

Last Line says:

You are not getting to them.

Together...

they are two different expressions of:

Dominion.

The Warden and The Shield

When Marcus and Talia operate together, their roles become obvious.

Marcus controls:

the ground.

Talia controls:

who survives standing on it.

Marcus makes sure enemies cannot take the position.

Talia makes sure allies survive long enough to keep it.

Marcus says:

“Hold.”

Talia says:

“Get behind me.”

Between the two of them...

moving Dominion becomes considerably more difficult.

Compassion Is Not Weakness

Some members of Bao Si’s hierarchy may mistake Talia’s compassion for softness.

That usually happens:

once.

Talia cares about people.

She is patient with frightened workers.

She understands panic.

She listens to injured personnel.

She may comfort somebody who is overwhelmed.

None of that means she is hesitant in combat.

Talia is perfectly capable of hurting someone badly if they threaten people under her protection.

Her compassion does not reduce her aggression.

It determines:

where she points it.

Personality — Get Behind Me

Talia is confident.

Direct.

Protective.

Warm when circumstances allow it.

Extremely stubborn when they do not.

She has a tendency to physically place herself between people and problems before anyone actually asks.

Sometimes the danger is obvious.

Sometimes the “problem” is just an argument she believes is getting out of hand.

Talia does not always recognize that standing nearly seven feet of reconstructed muscle with a massive caution-striped Tower Shield between two people can make negotiations slightly more intimidating.

She means well.

Usually.

The Calm Before Impact

Talia is surprisingly composed during emergencies.

People screaming does not help.

Panic does not help.

Arguing with the collapsing building does not help.

Talia prefers instructions.

You.

Move there.

You.

Help them.

You.

Call medical.

You two.

Stay behind me.

The larger the emergency...

the calmer she often becomes.

Until someone deliberately hurts somebody under her protection.

Then the calm:

changes.

Dependability

People who work with Talia eventually learn something important.

If she says:

“I’m coming back.”

she does everything in her power to make that true.

If she says:

“I’ve got you.”

she means it.

And if she says:

“Stay behind me.”

there are very few places in the world safer than directly behind:

Talia Grant.

What Talia Values

Several things matter deeply to Talia:

Responsibility

Courage

Solidarity

Protecting the vulnerable

People who look after their teams

Leaders who stay during emergencies

Strength used constructively

Honesty under pressure

Keeping promises

Going back for the last person

She particularly respects frightened people who still choose to help someone else.

Talia considers that:

real courage.

What Talia Hates

Talia has very little patience for:

Abandoning people under your protection

Cowardly leadership

Preventable negligence

Needless cruelty

Exploitation

People using strength against those who cannot defend themselves

Ignoring evacuation orders

Treating workers as disposable

Walking away because saving someone became inconvenient

Anyone interfering with emergency access

Anyone touching Last Line without permission

And there is one phrase guaranteed to irritate her:

“Someone else will handle it.”

Talia has spent too much of her life being:

someone else.

Strength as Responsibility

Talia does not believe strength automatically grants authority.

But she does believe strength creates:

obligation.

If she can carry more...

she should.

If she can withstand more...

she should.

If she can protect someone...

she should.

There is nothing complicated about that philosophy to Talia.

She does not understand why people try to make it complicated.

You have power.

Someone needs help.

Use the power.

Her Rule

Talia’s philosophy can be summarized in one sentence:

“Strength that protects only itself is wasted.”

It does not matter whether the danger is:

physical,

spiritual,

corporate,

structural,

or something far worse.

If Talia possesses enough strength to stand between it and someone who cannot survive the impact...

she knows exactly where she belongs.

In front.

Why Last Line Fits Talia

Last Line was not created to turn Talia into something she was not.

It was built around something she had been doing:

her entire life.

Stepping in front.

Before Reconstruction...

she used her own body.

Then Reconstruction allowed her to withstand more.

Last Line allowed her to protect:

more people at once.

The Tower Shield gives the group a wall.

The gauntlets let Talia hold that wall.

Impact Sink manages the collision.

Barrier Lock holds the position.

Brace Drive keeps the shield in her hands.

Emergency Cover shelters whoever needs it.

Shield Rush moves the safe zone forward.

Impact Counter handles whatever gets too close.

And Stand Behind Me ensures that even when the defense is not enough...

Talia can still choose:

who takes the damage.

Usually...

herself.

The Problem With The Shield

Talia Grant represents something uncomfortable about Bao Si’s hierarchy.

Not everyone serving it is cruel.

Not everyone is selfish.

Not everyone enjoys control.

Some people stand beneath Bao Si because they genuinely believe:

order protects people.

Talia is one of them.

She sees strength being used to secure communities.

She sees resources being mobilized.

She sees dangerous people stopped.

She sees workers protected.

She sees systems that actually respond when something goes wrong.

And every time that happens...

Bao Si’s worldview becomes a little easier for Talia to justify.

That is what makes her dangerous.

Not because she secretly wants everyone to suffer.

But because she can point toward people who survived specifically because Dominion was there...

and ask:

“Was protecting them wrong?”

The answer is not as simple as anyone wants it to be.

The Shield of Dominion

Talia Grant did not become powerful because she wanted to rule anyone.

She wanted enough strength to:

keep people alive.

Tail VIII gave her that strength.

Now Talia stands as one of the three highest reconstructed descendants beneath Dominion.

A Direct Underling.

A protector.

A living barricade.

A woman capable of smiling through fangs while an attack strong enough to destroy somebody else crashes directly into Last Line.

She does not consider herself evil.

She does not consider herself oppressive.

She considers herself:

responsible.

If someone is standing behind Talia...

she considers their survival:

partially her problem.

And Talia Grant has never been particularly good at ignoring problems she is strong enough to solve.

More Than a Shield

Talia still carries the old rescue whistle.

She still checks emergency exits.

She still notices when someone looks injured and insists they are fine.

She still hates leaders who disappear when things become dangerous.

And somewhere inside The Shelter...

there is probably a worker trying to convince Talia that a minor injury is not worth reporting.

It is.

She already noticed.

Talia always notices.

And if something comes through the door looking for the people under her protection?

The tall woman with the brown braids reaches for:

Last Line.

The caution-yellow armor locks into place.

The Tower Shield drops.

Barrier Lock engages.

Her gauntlets tighten around the reinforced grips.

The people behind her hear:

“Stay there.”

And if ordinary strength is not enough...

the brown eyes ignite:

gold.

The fangs appear.

The braids darken and thicken into black reconstructed fur.

More fur emerges beneath the gauntlets.

Her arms swell with greater strength.

And then Talia:

smiles.

Not because she wants the fight.

Because whoever started it has just made one very important mistake.

They put:

Talia Grant

between themselves...

and the people they wanted to hurt.

The Last Line

Talia has spent most of her life entering dangerous places while everyone else was trying to leave them.

Reconstruction did not change that.

It simply made her considerably harder to stop.

Last Line did not change it either.

It simply gave everyone behind her:

somewhere safer to stand.

She still believes strength means responsibility.

She still believes somebody has to stand in front.

And when the moment arrives...

Talia rarely needs anyone to tell her where that place is.

She already knows.

When the perimeter fails...

when the exit disappears...

when the walls come down...

when there is nowhere else left to retreat...

there is still:

Last Line.

And behind it...

The Shield.

Strength that protects only itself...

is wasted.
