Meet Akai — The Crimson Spirit of Zenpai Association
Zenpai AssociationEvery collection begins with something small.
A character someone loved.
A game they never forgot.
A figure they saved for.
A card they refused to throw away.
A memory attached to something another person might consider ordinary.
Those memories create something difficult to measure.
Attachment.
Excitement.
Nostalgia.
Passion.
The feeling of finally finding something you thought you would never own.
Akai has always believed those emotions have something to do with why she exists.
There is only one problem.
Akai doesn't actually remember being born.
Her earliest memories begin much later.
A red-and-black flame.
Fragments of unfamiliar places.
Strong emotions pulling her from one world to another.
And eventually...
four paws.
Enormous ears.
Bright eyes.
Fluffy tails.
And a personality that immediately became everyone else's problem.
Akai

Before Akai Had a Name
Akai does not remember a childhood.
She does not remember a den.
A family.
A birthplace.
Or even a single world she can definitively call her origin.
Her earliest memories are scattered sensations.
Warmth.
Excitement.
Curiosity.
Nostalgia.
Longing.
Joy.
Distant voices.
Places she cannot name.
And the strange feeling that she had already been traveling for a very long time.
Eventually, Akai developed her own explanation.
Across different worlds, people form powerful connections to stories.
Heroes.
Villains.
Games.
Anime.
Films.
Comics.
Characters that inspire them.
Objects that remind them of important moments in their lives.
Akai believes enough of those emotions may have gathered together until something eventually answered.
Something small.
Something spiritual.
Something alive.
Her.
It would explain a lot.
Why treasured objects feel different to her.
Why emotion influences her magic.
Why collectors seem strangely familiar no matter what world she visits.
And why she feels most comfortable around people who genuinely care about something.
Vivienne Vale has documented the theory.
But Vivienne has also added one important note:
It is only a theory.
There is no confirmed birthplace.
No record of Akai's creation.
No known origin world.
And no memory of what happened before the Wandering Flame.
Akai considers her explanation good enough.
Vivienne does not.
For now.
The Wandering Flame
The first form Akai actually remembers is a small red-and-black flame.
She drifted between worlds without fully understanding how.
One moment she might find herself surrounded by neon lights.
The next inside an ancient kingdom.
Then somewhere completely ordinary.
A bedroom.
A game room.
A shop.
A convention hall.
A collector's shelf.
Akai wasn't consciously choosing destinations.
She seemed to follow something.
Emotion.
Memory.
Attachment.
The stronger someone's connection to something became, the easier it was for Akai to find her way toward it.
Over time, the Wandering Flame became more stable.
More aware.
More curious.
Eventually...
the flame took shape.
A small fox spirit.
Akai has no memory of deciding upon that form.
It simply felt natural.
Small enough to explore.
Fast enough to disappear.
Cute enough to avoid consequences.
Most of the time.
The Collector Spirit
Akai quickly developed a fascination with collections.
Not because something was expensive.
Not because it was rare.
Not because everyone else wanted it.
Akai cares about the connection behind it.
A damaged figure someone has owned since childhood can attract her attention more strongly than a priceless artifact sitting untouched inside a vault.
Because Akai does not seem to sense:
Monetary value.
She senses:
Emotional value.
A treasured object feels different to her.
Warm.
Familiar.
Almost alive.
That is why some began calling her:
The Collector Spirit
Where collectors gather, stories gather.
And where stories gather...
Akai is rarely far behind.
Guardian of Collectors
Akai's connection to treasured objects eventually became protective.
She does not defend everything simply because someone owns it.
She protects the bond between people and the things that genuinely matter to them.
A damaged collectible can sometimes be repaired.
A lost item can occasionally be replaced.
But the memory attached to it?
That is harder.
Akai understands that instinctively.
She may steal your snack.
Hide inside your boxes.
Move something because she thinks it looks better somewhere else.
But deliberately destroying something deeply important to another person?
That changes her.
The playful fox becomes quiet.
The joking stops.
And somewhere beneath the small black-and-red body...
the Wandering Flame returns.
That is usually when everyone remembers why one of her titles includes the word:
Guardian.
Finding Zenpai Association
Akai wandered for a long time.
Different worlds fascinated her.
But none felt permanent.
Everywhere she traveled seemed to center around one story.
One world.
One group.
One fandom.
Then she found Zenpai Association.
And something felt different.
Anime existed beside gaming.
Movies beside comics.
Figures beside props.
Artwork beside collectibles.
Different worlds.
Different stories.
Different people.
All connected by one thing:
Someone cared about them.
Akai wandered through the Association for hours.
Then days.
Then apparently decided she lived there.
Nobody remembers formally inviting her.
This has never concerned Akai.
Home
Something about Zenpai Association felt strangely familiar to her.
Akai had spent her remembered existence following invisible emotional threads from world to world.
Here...
those threads seemed to cross everywhere.
Collectors searching for something they remembered.
People discovering new characters.
Items arriving from distant places.
Stories being shared.
Collections growing.
Friendships forming around completely different fandoms.
Whether those emotions truly created Akai remains unknown.
But they certainly helped her understand what she wanted.
For perhaps the first time...
The Wandering Flame no longer felt the need to keep wandering.
Zenpai Association became:
Home.
Zenpai's Lucky Fox
Eventually, members of the Association noticed something unusual.
Missions involving Akai seemed to have a strange tendency to work out.
A route appeared at exactly the right time.
Someone found an object they had spent years searching for.
A dangerous situation suddenly broke in the team's favor.
Sienna Canyon insists this is coincidence.
Akai strongly disagrees.
The nickname:
Zenpai's Lucky Fox
spread anyway.
Whether Akai genuinely influences probability remains unclear.
Vivienne has attempted to test the phenomenon.
The results remain inconclusive.
Akai considers this proof.
Vivienne considers this scientifically irritating.
The Support Mage
Although Akai is capable of using offensive magic, direct combat is not where she prefers to stand.
Akai would rather make everyone around her stronger.
Her role within the Core Five is primarily:
Support.
Akai specializes in magical effects that help her allies continue fighting, moving, thinking, and surviving.
Her abilities can include:
Healing magic
Protective barriers
Morale enhancement
Stamina reinforcement
Focus enhancement
Magical resistance
Recovery magic
Luck-based support
Spiritual reinforcement
Her magic does not simply increase physical power.
It responds heavily to emotion.
Determination.
Trust.
Courage.
Attachment.
The desire to protect somebody.
The need to bring something important home.
Akai seems capable of taking emotions that already exist and strengthening them.
A small spark becomes a flame.
Magic Through Connection
This makes Akai's support abilities unusual.
She cannot simply manufacture loyalty.
She cannot force someone to care.
And she cannot create courage where absolutely none exists.
But if someone already has a reason to keep moving...
Akai can help that reason become stronger.
Sienna becomes harder to exhaust.
Kai becomes sharper and quicker.
Vivienne can maintain concentration longer.
Parra can keep the team focused even as an operation begins collapsing around them.
Akai strengthens people without replacing what makes them themselves.
To her...
that distinction matters.
Even if she doesn't always know how to explain why.
More Skilled Than She Should Be
Akai prefers support magic.
That does not mean she is inexperienced in combat.
In fact...
there are moments where Akai displays an amount of magical combat awareness that nobody can properly explain.
When threatened, she occasionally reacts before everyone else realizes an attack is coming.
She instinctively understands magical positioning.
Her fox-fire can move with surprising precision.
Certain defensive techniques seem completely natural to her despite Akai having no memory of learning them.
Parra calls it:
Combat instinct.
Sienna thinks Akai simply has more experience than she remembers.
Vivienne calls it:
Evidence.
Akai calls it:
“Being really good at being Akai.”
Vivienne has not accepted this explanation.
The Things Akai Cannot Remember
There are gaps in Akai's memory.
Large ones.
She does not think about them very often.
The others do.
Sometimes Akai enters an unfamiliar place and pauses as though she has been there before.
Sometimes an ancient symbol creates an immediate reaction she cannot explain.
Sometimes a magical technique feels familiar before she has ever seen it performed.
Occasionally, she wakes from dreams she cannot remember.
Only fragments remain.
Mountains.
White fire.
A battlefield she does not recognize.
A feeling of terrible exhaustion.
And sometimes...
someone calling to her from very far away.
Most of it disappears within minutes.
Akai rarely seems bothered.
Vivienne keeps records anyway.
Parra has quietly begun doing the same.
Akai & Sienna Canyon
Akai loved Sienna almost immediately.
Sienna required considerably more convincing.
The problem began with:
The Prize Box
Sienna's retrieval carrier was designed to transport valuable cargo through dangerous environments.
Akai saw it and came to a different conclusion.
Bed.
Akai has slept inside it.
Hidden inside it.
Stored snacks inside it.
Moved collectibles around inside it.
And attempted to accompany Sienna on retrieval missions without telling her.
Sienna officially banned Akai from entering the Prize Box.
Akai officially ignored the ban.
Their relationship quickly became something resembling a chaotic younger-sister and older-sister dynamic.
Sienna complains constantly.
Akai does not believe her.
For good reason.
Skill or Luck?
Akai remains convinced that Sienna's retrieval record is partly the result of having Zenpai's Lucky Fox nearby.
Sienna insists her success comes from:
Preparation.
Skill.
Experience.
Instinct.
Akai stares at her.
Then smiles.
Sienna knows exactly what that smile means.
“Don't say it.”
Akai says it anyway.
The argument has never been resolved.
It probably never will be.
When Sienna Doesn't Come Back
Despite all their teasing, Akai behaves differently when Sienna is late returning from a mission.
Less playful.
Less distracted.
She waits.
Usually near the entrance.
Sometimes inside the Prize Box.
Parra has noticed.
Vivienne has noticed.
Kai has noticed.
Sienna probably has too.
Nobody talks about it.
When Sienna finally returns, Akai immediately resumes causing problems.
Which is usually how everyone knows things are normal again.
Akai & Vivienne Vale
Vivienne represents nearly everything Akai struggles with.
Order.
Rules.
Labels.
Restricted shelves.
And especially the words:
DO NOT TOUCH
Naturally...
Akai adores the Zenpai Archives.
She has climbed restricted shelves.
Hidden inside artifact crates.
Moved catalog labels.
Fallen asleep on Vivienne's documents.
Carried unidentified objects into the Archive.
And attempted to reorganize everything according to a system understood exclusively by Akai.
Vivienne eventually established one of the Archive's most important rules:
AKAI DOES NOT REORGANIZE THE ARCHIVE.
Akai has largely ignored this policy.
The Curator's Little Assistant
Akai seems convinced she works in the Archives.
Vivienne has never formally confirmed this employment arrangement.
Akai sits beside her while she researches.
Watches pages turn.
Stares at illustrations.
Falls asleep.
Wakes up.
Touches something she shouldn't.
Gets removed.
Returns later.
Vivienne complains.
But somehow...
there is always an empty space beside Vivienne's desk large enough for Akai to sleep.
Nobody mentions this.
Vivienne prefers it that way.
Vivienne Understands Akai Better Than Most
Vivienne was one of the first people to recognize that Akai is not attracted merely to rarity.
She is attracted to:
Meaning.
Vivienne has watched Akai ignore priceless artifacts while becoming fascinated by damaged, inexpensive objects carrying tremendous emotional importance.
That observation changed how Vivienne studied her.
Artifacts preserve history.
Akai appears to preserve the emotional reason history matters.
Vivienne would never phrase it that sentimentally.
But she knows it is true.
She is also one of the people most interested in Akai's missing memories.
Akai considers that curiosity unnecessary.
Vivienne considers Akai's entire existence an unanswered research question.
Their disagreement continues.
Akai & Parra Loph
Parra Loph cares deeply about Akai.
This is unfortunate for Parra's blood pressure.
Their relationship can usually be summarized with one command:
“AKAI. DOWN.”
Parra has said this more times than anyone can count.
Akai thinks it is a game.
Parra insists it is not.
Mostly.
The Megaphone
Akai is fascinated by Parra's ZA Command Megaphone.
She has pressed buttons.
Pulled straps.
Tried making noises into it.
Fallen asleep beside it.
And once activated it while Parra was standing directly in front of the speaker.
Parra spent the next several minutes hearing ringing.
Akai was delighted.
The megaphone has since been stored somewhere Akai supposedly cannot reach.
Akai eventually reached it.
Security procedures remain under review.
Parra's Weakness
Parra is strict with everyone.
Especially during briefings.
If Sienna ignores part of the plan?
Parra notices.
If Kai falls asleep?
Everybody notices.
If Akai falls asleep?
Parra quietly places something comfortable beneath her head.
Then continues complaining that Akai isn't listening.
Kai once pointed out the hypocrisy.
Parra informed him that anyone who regularly sleeps through mission briefings has forfeited the right to comment.
Kai considered this unfair.
Akai continued sleeping.
When Akai Goes Missing
Parra may complain about Akai wandering off.
But if Akai genuinely disappears?
Everything changes.
Parra organizes the search immediately.
Routes are checked.
Teams are assigned.
Communications remain open.
Every possible location is investigated.
Nobody has to ask if Parra is worried.
Her voice gives that away.
Akai may drive The Coordinator insane.
But she is still:
Their Akai.
And Parra intends to make sure she comes home.
Akai & Kai En
This friendship was a mistake.
Nobody knows exactly when it happened.
At some point, Kai En discovered Akai found his behavior entertaining.
Akai discovered Kai usually had snacks.
The alliance formed immediately.
Parra opposed it.
Vivienne had concerns.
Sienna found it hilarious.
Until things began disappearing.
Silvie
Akai once heard somebody call Kai:
Silvie.
That was enough.
Kai attempted to explain that Silvie was only a nickname his friends used because of his silver hair.
Akai interpreted this as permission.
From that moment onward...
Kai became Silvie.
Kai:
“Kai.”
Akai ignores him.
“Kane?”
Nothing.
Kai sighs.
“Silvie?”
Akai immediately looks at him.
The battle ended long ago.
Akai won.
“Borrowing”
Kai has taught Akai several concepts the rest of the Association wishes he had not.
The worst is:
Borrowing.
According to Kai, if nobody is currently using something and you intend to return it eventually...
ownership becomes flexible.
Vivienne disagrees.
Parra strongly disagrees.
Sienna checks her wallet.
Akai thinks Kai's explanation makes complete sense.
This has resulted in Akai occasionally appearing with objects that clearly belong to somebody else.
When questioned, she now looks toward Kai.
Kai usually says:
“Don't look at me.”
Everyone looks at Kai.
A Terrible Influence
Kai once taught Akai that unattended snacks were:
“Community property.”
Parra spent several days correcting this.
Vivienne created another rule.
Sienna started hiding her food.
Kai insists he did nothing wrong.
Akai remains unconvinced there was a problem.
Despite everything...
Kai and Akai genuinely care about one another.
Kai lets her accompany him on safe errands.
Akai watches him negotiate.
Kai insists Zenpai's Lucky Fox improves his bargaining ability.
Vivienne says there is no evidence supporting this.
Kai has chosen to disregard that information.
If They're Too Quiet...
There is one general rule everyone inside Zenpai Association understands.
If Kai and Akai have been unusually quiet for more than five minutes...
Check immediately.
One of three things has probably happened.
Kai is asleep.
Akai is asleep on Kai.
Or both of them are doing something they were specifically instructed not to do.
The third possibility is statistically concerning.
Akai Doesn't Understand Departments
Everyone else has responsibilities.
Sienna handles retrieval.
Vivienne manages the Archives.
Parra coordinates Operations.
Kai handles infiltration and procurement.
Akai understands none of these boundaries.
She visits everybody.
Constantly.
The Archives are a napping area.
Operations contains interesting buttons.
The Prize Box is transportation and sleeping accommodation.
Kai's assignments are potential adventures.
Nobody has successfully explained:
“This is not your department.”
Akai appears to believe all of Zenpai Association is her department.
Considering she is the official mascot...
she may technically have a point.
The Heart of the Core Five
Every member of the Core Five brings something different.
Sienna brings strength.
Kai brings speed and infiltration.
Vivienne brings knowledge.
Parra brings strategy and coordination.
Akai brings:
Support.
But her role is more than magic.
Akai keeps people emotionally connected.
She notices when somebody is afraid.
When morale is dropping.
When someone has pushed themselves too far.
When the team needs encouragement more than another order.
Sienna may be the strongest.
Kai may be the fastest.
Vivienne may know the most.
Parra may create the plan.
But Akai helps ensure that none of them forget:
Why they are fighting in the first place.
The Spirit Between Them
Akai connects people who may otherwise have remained simply coworkers.
Sienna pretends she doesn't like Akai sleeping inside the Prize Box.
Vivienne pretends the space beside her desk wasn't deliberately left open.
Parra pretends she isn't noticeably softer on Akai than everyone else.
Kai doesn't pretend anything.
He openly encourages her.
Which is probably worse.
Each person sees something different in the Crimson Spirit.
To Sienna, Akai is the annoying little sister who always waits for her return.
To Vivienne, Akai is proof that meaning cannot always be measured.
To Parra, Akai is another precious member of the team who needs to come home.
To Kai...
she is an accomplice.
Unfortunately.
The Floating Flame
Although Akai usually appears as a small fox spirit, she can still transform into the red-and-black flame she remembers from her earliest days.
In this state she becomes lighter.
Faster.
More difficult to contain.
And capable of slipping through spaces her physical body could not.
The form is particularly useful during Cross-World Travel.
A flame appears.
It flickers.
Expands.
And Akai emerges.
Sometimes gracefully.
Sometimes directly on top of something expensive.
Vivienne prefers the first method.
Cross-World Travel
Akai's most unusual known ability is her natural talent for moving between worlds.
She does not travel using the same methods as the Association's normal portal systems.
Akai seems to:
Feel connections.
A treasured object.
A strong memory.
Someone desperately thinking about somewhere they once belonged.
Those connections sometimes become paths.
Akai follows them.
She does not fully understand why she can do this.
She simply knows that she can.
It is one of the reasons Zenpai Association has encountered so many distant worlds.
It is also one of the reasons Parra would desperately like Akai to announce where she is going before disappearing.
Akai has not adopted this procedure.
The White Fox
For most of Akai's remembered existence, she assumed fox spirits like herself were simply rare.
Then came stories of another.
Older.
Far older.
A white fox spirit whose name appears inconsistently throughout forgotten records and damaged histories.
Some called her an empress.
Others a tyrant.
Others simply:
The White Fox.
Her name is:
Bao Si.
What little the Association knows about Bao Si paints a picture almost completely opposite to Akai.
Regal where Akai is playful.
Emotionless where Akai is expressive.
Hierarchical where Akai ignores status completely.
Bao Si is associated with spiritual domination, ancient empires, illusion, fox-fire, and beings whose loyalty appears absolute.
Akai believes Bao Si may simply be her natural counterpart.
White and crimson.
Authority and freedom.
Control and connection.
Two fox spirits existing on opposite sides of the same spiritual balance.
It is an explanation Akai finds surprisingly easy to accept.
Vivienne does not.
Something About Bao Si Feels Wrong
Akai does not remember meeting Bao Si before.
And yet...
something happens whenever she senses The White Fox.
Recognition.
Not memory.
Not exactly.
Something deeper.
The first time Akai encountered traces of Bao Si's spiritual presence, she froze before anyone else recognized there was danger.
Her fox-fire reacted on its own.
Her support magic surged.
And for several seconds...
Akai appeared terrified without understanding what she was afraid of.
Bao Si's presence feels familiar.
Her magic feels familiar.
Even her name sometimes creates the strange sensation that Akai is not learning something new.
But remembering something old.
Akai cannot explain it.
Bao Si has offered no explanation.
And Vivienne has learned not to dismiss unexplained reactions when Akai is involved.
Crimson and White
Akai believes the answer is simple.
Every guardian eventually discovers something it must stand against.
Every flame creates contrast.
If Akai represents connection...
perhaps Bao Si represents control.
If Akai protects free emotional bonds...
perhaps The White Fox simply represents their opposite.
That explanation makes sense.
At least...
Akai thinks it does.
For now.
Akai's Personality
Akai is curious before almost everything else.
Something new?
She investigates it.
Something forbidden?
She investigates it faster.
She is playful.
Affectionate.
Mischievous.
Emotionally expressive.
And capable of becoming attached to people almost immediately.
Akai has almost no interest in hierarchy.
Titles mean very little to her.
The Coordinator?
Megaphone Lady.
The Curator?
Person With Interesting Shelves.
Trophy Wife?
Prize Box Owner.
The Opportunist?
Silvie.
People are simply people.
Akai decides whether she likes them herself.
She has never understood why anyone would want it another way.
More Than Mischief
For all the comedy surrounding Akai, there is another side to her.
It appears when somebody is genuinely hurt.
When a treasured object is deliberately destroyed.
When someone she loves doesn't return.
When Zenpai Association is threatened.
The playful fox becomes still.
Her magic changes.
The Wandering Flame appears beneath the surface.
And occasionally...
something else appears with it.
Power that Akai cannot consciously reproduce.
Instinct she doesn't remember learning.
A seriousness that feels strangely old.
Nobody in the Association completely understands what Akai may be capable of.
Including Akai herself.
Vivienne considers this worth studying.
Parra considers it worth planning around.
Sienna considers it one more reason nobody should threaten her.
Kai thinks mysterious hidden power sounds cool.
Akai mostly wants snacks.
What Akai Loves
Akai is happiest around:
Collectors
Interesting boxes
Rare objects
Ordinary objects with important stories
The Prize Box
Vivienne's desk
Parra's megaphone
Following Kai
Free snacks
Traveling between worlds
Supporting her teammates
Sleeping somewhere inconvenient
Being included
That last one may matter more than anything else.
What Akai Does Not Like
A few things can genuinely upset the otherwise cheerful fox spirit:
People deliberately damaging treasured belongings
Collectors being mocked for loving something
Being locked out of interesting rooms
Everyone leaving on a mission without her
Sienna taking too long to come home
Vivienne moving everything too high
Parra saying “No”
Kai running out of snacks
And increasingly...
White fox-fire.
Akai does not know why.
The Guardian of Collectors
Akai does not catalog history like Vivienne.
She doesn't organize missions like Parra.
She doesn't retrieve treasures like Sienna.
She doesn't negotiate, infiltrate, or “borrow” things like Kai.
Her role is harder to describe.
Akai represents the reason all of those things matter.
The feeling behind collecting.
The memories.
The excitement.
The attachment.
The joy of finding exactly what you were searching for.
A collection is never merely a group of objects.
Not to Akai.
Every shelf contains memories.
Every treasured item belongs to a story.
And every person who cares about those things creates another connection for Akai to protect.
The Heart of Zenpai Association
Akai's earliest remembered life began as a wandering flame with nowhere to belong.
Now?
She has Sienna's Prize Box to sleep in.
Vivienne's Archive to disrupt.
Parra's announcements to ignore.
Kai's terrible habits to learn.
And an entire Association that pretends she causes nothing but problems.
Until she disappears.
Then everybody looks for her.
Because somewhere between the arguments, rules, missions, research, negotiations, magic, and endless chaos...
Akai became something more than Zenpai Association's mascot.
She became part of what makes the Association feel like:
Home.
Sienna brings the treasures back.
Vivienne preserves their stories.
Parra makes sure everybody gets home.
Kai finds opportunities nobody else notices.
And Akai?
Akai keeps them standing.
Keeps them connected.
And reminds them why any of it matters.
Akai believes she understands why she is here.
Perhaps she was born from the emotions connecting people to the stories they treasure.
Perhaps The White Fox simply represents the opposite of everything she became.
Perhaps the missing memories mean nothing.
Or perhaps...
the Wandering Flame has been traveling far longer than Akai remembers.
For now, she isn't particularly interested in finding out.
She already knows the most important thing.
Whatever came before...
Zenpai Association is where she chose to stay.
Follow the flame.
Protect the story.
Treasure what matters.
