Package of the Dead: Meet the Zombies, Enemy Paths & Bosses
Zenpai AssociationYou know the towers.
You know Akai.
You know the package has exactly one job:
Stay alive.
Now it is time to talk about the reason your defenses exist in the first place.
The zombies.
Package of the Dead is not built around sending the same enemy down the same path over and over again.
Different zombies are designed to create different problems for the player.
Some arrive in numbers.
Some refuse to die quickly.
Some move fast.
Some move way too fast.
And at least one of them seems to have made destroying your towers a personal hobby.
We are not going to reveal every ability or every surprise.
But until the full tutorial arrives, consider this your warning.
Horde Zombies
Sometimes the danger is not one powerful enemy.
It is having too many enemies on the battlefield at the same time.
Horde Zombies are exactly what they sound like.
They arrive in numbers and put pressure on your defenses by giving your towers more targets than they would probably like.
One zombie may not seem particularly threatening.
An entire group moving together?
Different situation.
As the battlefield becomes crowded, defenses that handled earlier waves comfortably may suddenly struggle to keep up.
Do not underestimate quantity.
Tank Zombies
Then there are the zombies that apparently forgot they were supposed to die.
Tank Zombies are built to take punishment.
They are slower than some of the more aggressive enemy types, but they compensate with durability.
That means they can remain on the battlefield considerably longer while your defenses continue attacking them.
A Tank Zombie moving slowly toward the package might not look urgent at first.
That confidence can disappear quickly once you realize how much damage it can absorb.
Sometimes the enemy moving the slowest is the one you should be watching.
Fast Zombies
Not every zombie gives you time to think.
Fast Zombies are designed to close the distance much quicker than normal enemies.
That means your towers have less time to attack before the zombie reaches another part of the battlefield.
A defense that works perfectly against slower enemies may suddenly feel very different when something starts sprinting through it.
Speed changes everything.
And Then There Are Even Faster Zombies
You thought Fast Zombies were annoying?
Cute.
There are enemies capable of moving even faster.
We are not going to explain exactly how they work.
Just understand that eventually, something may enter the battlefield and make your definition of "fast" feel outdated.
When that happens...
Try not to blink.
A Tower's Worst Nightmare
Most enemies have one obvious goal:
Reach the package.
But remember something important:
Not every zombie follows the rules.
There is an enemy in Package of the Dead that your towers are probably going to hate.
A lot.
Instead of behaving like an ordinary zombie, this threat can create problems specifically for the defenses you spent all those Coins building.
We are deliberately keeping the details vague.
You deserve the experience of seeing it for the first time and thinking:
"Wait... what is it doing?"
Then realizing:
"Oh no."
Protecting the package becomes significantly harder when your defenses themselves are under pressure.
Consider yourself warned.
Three Known Zombie Paths
The current battlefield features three known enemy paths.
That gives players several routes to keep an eye on as waves move toward the package.
Knowing those routes becomes an important part of understanding the battlefield.
Enemies approach.
Your defenses engage.
The paths eventually converge toward the objective.
Simple enough.
Except...
Not Every Zombie Follows the Rules
The three paths are what you can see.
That does not mean every enemy is going to politely cooperate with your expectations.
Package of the Dead is designed around the idea that certain enemies may behave differently from the standard wave.
That could mean the battlefield you thought you understood suddenly becomes much less predictable.
So learn the paths.
Use them.
Build around them.
Just do not become so comfortable that you assume every zombie signed the same agreement.
They didn't.
Meet the Trophy Wife Zombie
And then there is Trophy Wife.
We have a feeling she is going to become somebody's favorite zombie.
Possibly for gameplay reasons.
Possibly because of her design.
We're not judging. 😉
Teasy is one of the more distinctive enemies you may encounter in Package of the Dead.
We are deliberately keeping her behavior under wraps.
Some surprises are better experienced than explained.
Just remember her name.
When she eventually shows up...
You'll understand.
Special Zombies Change the Battlefield
The farther you progress, the more Package of the Dead begins moving away from simple enemies with different amounts of health.
Special zombies are meant to create situations that make players reconsider what they built.
That may mean dealing with:
- Unexpected movement
- Increased durability
- Greater speed
- Pressure on your defenses
- Unusual abilities
- Threats that behave differently from ordinary enemies
The goal is for players to eventually recognize certain enemies immediately.
You should be able to see something entering the map and think:
"I know exactly why I hate you."
That is the dream.
Every Five Waves...
Something bigger is waiting.
Package of the Dead currently introduces a Boss every five waves.
That means surviving normal enemies is only part of the challenge.
Eventually, the battlefield has to deal with something considerably more dangerous.
Boss encounters are intended to serve as major checkpoints throughout a run.
If your defense has weaknesses, a boss has a good chance of finding them.
Bosses Are More Than Bigger Health Bars
We did not want every boss encounter to simply be:
Normal zombie + enormous amount of health.
Some bosses have abilities capable of changing the situation on the battlefield.
Those abilities can turn the tide quickly if the player did not prepare beforehand.
We will not reveal the mechanics here.
But the general warning is simple:
Do not assume the strategy that defeated the previous waves will automatically defeat the boss.
Preparation matters.
Sometimes a lot.
Boss 1
The first boss is your introduction to the idea that Package of the Dead is willing to fight back.
If your defenses have been barely surviving the normal waves, the first major encounter may expose that very quickly.
Consider it your first serious test.
Boss 2
By the time the second boss appears, you have had considerably more time to develop your defense.
Which means the game has considerably less sympathy for you.
This is where preparation starts becoming even more important.
The farther you progress, the less forgiving the battlefield becomes.
Boss 3
If you have reached Boss 3, congratulations.
Your defense clearly works.
So far.
At this point, players should already understand that bosses may bring more to the battlefield than durability.
You have had fifteen waves to prepare.
Hopefully you used them wisely.
Boss 4
And then there is Boss 4.
We have one piece of strategic advice for Boss 4:
Good luck.
That's it.
No tutorial.
No secret weakness.
No recommended tower placement.
No perfect upgrade path.
Just:
Good luck.
No one survives Boss 4.
At least...
That's what we're going with until somebody proves otherwise.
What Happens If You Actually Survive?
Let's say you do it.
You survive the hordes.
You survive the Tank Zombies.
You survive the speed.
You survive the enemies that refuse to behave.
You make it through every five-wave boss encounter.
And somehow...
Boss 4 falls.
There is something waiting for you at the end of the road.
A reward.
We are not revealing what it is here.
If you want to know...
Earn it.
The Reward Is for Survivors
Package of the Dead is designed around progression.
Reaching the end should feel different from simply surviving another ordinary wave.
That means players who manage to complete the full challenge have something waiting for them.
Exactly what?
That stays inside the game.
Some things should not be spoiled in a blog post.
Learn the Enemy, Not Just the Towers
It is easy to focus entirely on your own defenses.
What tower should you buy?
What should you upgrade?
How should Akai develop?
But half of tower defense is understanding what is coming toward you.
Different enemies create different problems.
Horde Zombies pressure your ability to handle numbers.
Tank Zombies test sustained damage.
Fast enemies shorten your reaction window.
Other threats may interact with the battlefield in ways you were not expecting.
And bosses?
Bosses are there to find out whether your defense was actually as good as you thought it was.
Expect the Unexpected
Three paths.
Multiple zombie classes.
Special enemies.
Bosses every five waves.
And a few things that apparently never learned how paths are supposed to work.
Package of the Dead is designed to become less predictable the farther you progress.
Early waves allow you to learn.
Later waves ask whether you actually learned anything.
And somewhere along the way, Teasy will probably show up and distract half the player base.
We planned for that.
Probably.
How Far Can You Defend the Package?
The towers are available.
Akai is ready.
The utilities are waiting.
Now you know a little more about what is coming for them.
But we have intentionally left plenty unexplained.
You still have to discover:
-
How certain enemies behave
-
What special abilities they possess
-
How each boss changes the battle
-
Which threats break the normal rules
-
What waits at the end
Knowing everything before playing would ruin half the fun.
So build your defense.
Watch all three paths.
Do not get comfortable.
And when Boss 4 arrives...
Well.
We warned you.
