Beyond Package of the Dead: The Future of Zenpai Arcade
Zenpai AssociationPackage of the Dead is only the beginning.
When Zenpai Arcade first started taking shape, the goal was never to build one game, release it, and call the project finished.
The bigger idea was to create a part of Zenpai Association where visitors could do something completely different from shopping.
A place to:
- Play
- Compete
- Experiment
- Discover characters
- Return for updates
- Chase better scores
- Experience different types of games
Package of the Dead became the first step because tower defense gave us a good foundation for learning how an actual game could live inside the Zenpai Association experience.
But an arcade with one machine is not much of an arcade.
So what comes after the package?
Quite a bit.
Why Zenpai Arcade Exists
Zenpai Association will always revolve around collectibles, fandom, gaming, anime, and the products surrounding those interests.
But we also want the website itself to have personality.
Normally, an online store follows a familiar routine:
Browse → Buy → Leave
There is nothing inherently wrong with that.
But we wanted another reason to come back.
Zenpai Arcade is our attempt to build that reason.
Instead of every visit needing to begin with:
“What am I buying today?”
sometimes it can simply begin with:
“What do I feel like playing?”
Package of the Dead Is the First Test
Package of the Dead is doing more than testing a tower-defense game.
It is helping us learn how the entire Arcade should work.
Through the Demo and the road toward Beta, we are learning about:
- Game interfaces
- Menus
- Player controls
- Progression
- Characters
- Difficulty
- Game updates
- Feedback
- Arcade presentation
- How games fit inside Zenpai Association
Every improvement to Package of the Dead teaches us something that can help with future Arcade projects.
So while POTD has its own identity, it is also laying the groundwork for everything that could follow.
The Arcade Will Not Be One Genre
One thing we absolutely do not want is:
Package of the Dead 2.
Then:
Package of the Dead 3.
Then five more games that basically play exactly the same way.
Zenpai Arcade is supposed to feel like an actual arcade.
That means variety.
Different games should ask players to use different skills.
One game may reward strategy.
Another may reward memory.
Another may be about timing.
Another may be about positioning.
Another may simply be chaotic fun.
The goal is to make switching games feel like walking over to a different machine.
Package Match
One of the smaller concepts planned for the Arcade is a package-themed matching game.
Instead of defending packages from an undead invasion, this time the packages themselves become the puzzle.
The concept revolves around recognizing and matching colors or patterns while the board becomes increasingly difficult to manage.
This type of game gives us an opportunity to create something:
- Faster to understand
- Easy to replay
- Score-driven
- Completely different from tower defense
Package of the Dead may ask you to plan an entire defense.
Package Match might ask you to stop staring at the wrong color for three seconds.
Different kind of pressure.
A Different Kind of Zenpai Character
Future games also give us room to introduce characters who would never naturally belong on the Package of the Dead battlefield.
Instead of every Zenpai character existing inside one game, different Arcade experiences can have their own:
- Hosts
- Managers
- Rivals
- Guides
- Enemies
- Supporting characters
Some may appear once.
Others could begin showing up across multiple games.
That gives the Arcade an opportunity to gradually develop its own cast rather than treating every title as a completely disconnected project.
Card Matching
Another planned smaller Arcade experience is a Card Matching game.
The concept is simple enough for almost anyone to understand:
Reveal cards.
Remember where they are.
Find the matching pairs.
Try not to immediately forget the card you flipped two seconds ago.
Where this becomes more interesting is through themed card sets.
Different sets could eventually feature:
- Zenpai characters
- Game characters
- Arcade artwork
- Different visual themes
- Special event sets
That makes the core game easy to understand while allowing the content surrounding it to continue expanding.
Different Card Sets for Different Audiences
Zenpai Association carries products and content intended for different audiences, and the Arcade can follow the same principle.
If mature-themed card sets are ever introduced, they would remain clearly separated into an appropriate 18+ experience rather than being mixed into the standard game unexpectedly.
The normal Arcade experience should remain accessible without players having adult material suddenly appear because they clicked the wrong card.
Different experiences can exist without pretending they belong in exactly the same place.
Zenpai Arena
Another concept we have explored is Zenpai Arena.
This would take inspiration from old-school gladiator RPG games where the player develops a fighter and gradually becomes stronger through repeated battles.
The appeal is completely different from Package of the Dead.
Instead of managing a battlefield filled with towers, the focus would move toward:
- Your fighter
- Equipment
- Progression
- Combat choices
- Improving over time
The idea is something easy to understand but satisfying to keep playing.
Enter.
Fight.
Improve.
Come back stronger.
And eventually wonder why the opponent who destroyed you ten minutes ago suddenly looks extremely beatable.
Why Progression Matters
Some Arcade games will work best as quick sessions.
Others become much more interesting when the player feels like they are building something.
Progression can give players reasons to return through things such as:
- Better equipment
- New abilities
- Character growth
- Higher difficulty
- Unlockable content
- New challenges
We do not want every game to use the same progression system.
But when progression fits the game naturally, it can turn something you play once into something you want to continue.
Package Wars
Then there is Package Wars.
Because apparently packages have not suffered enough.
This concept moves away from tower defense entirely and focuses more on angle, power, trajectory, and destruction.
Players would adjust their attack and attempt to land projectiles on opponents across the battlefield.
Think about the satisfaction of lining up the perfect shot...
followed immediately by the humiliation of watching it miss completely.
That is the kind of experience Package Wars could create.
Simple controls.
Increasing skill.
Lots of room for ridiculous situations.
Physics Can Create Its Own Comedy
One reason artillery-style games are fun is that failure can be almost as entertaining as success.
A perfect shot feels great.
A terrible shot creates a story.
Package Wars gives us room to experiment with:
- Different projectiles
- Battlefield layouts
- Obstacles
- Environmental interactions
- Power and trajectory
- Different characters
It is a very different type of game from anything currently inside the Arcade.
Which is exactly why it belongs in the conversation.
A 2D Platformer
We have also explored the idea of a 2D platforming game.
That would move Zenpai Arcade into a much more movement-focused direction.
Instead of selecting towers or managing menus during battle, the player would directly control a character through environments filled with:
- Platforms
- Obstacles
- Enemies
- Collectibles
- Hazards
- Secrets
A platformer also creates much more room for environments and character personality.
Different Arcade worlds could finally become places the player actually moves through rather than simply backgrounds behind another game system.
Building an Arcade World
A platformer could eventually help answer a larger question:
What does the world surrounding Zenpai Arcade actually look like?
So far, Package of the Dead gives us one battlefield.
Future games can gradually expand beyond that.
Warehouses.
Delivery routes.
Arcade spaces.
Strange environments.
Character-specific locations.
There is no reason every game needs to exist in exactly the same setting.
But recurring details could make them feel like they belong to the same larger universe.
Turn-Based Tactical Battles
Another larger idea is a turn-based tactical game.
This would be one of the more strategic Arcade concepts.
Players could potentially control multiple characters across a battlefield where:
- Position matters
- Movement matters
- Attack range matters
- Character roles matter
- Decisions carry consequences
Instead of reacting quickly, the emphasis would be on planning.
Every move becomes:
“If I put this character here... what happens next?”
And occasionally:
“Why did I put that character there?”
Different Games Can Serve Different Players
Not everybody enjoys the same type of game.
Some people love:
- Strategy
- Puzzle games
- Fast reaction games
- RPG progression
- Platforming
- Tactical combat
That is exactly why expanding into different genres matters.
Someone who does not care about tower defense might love Package Match.
Someone who does not enjoy matching games might spend hours inside Zenpai Arena.
Someone else may only care about tactical games.
Zenpai Arcade does not need every player to love every machine.
It needs enough different machines that everyone eventually finds one they like.
Smaller Games Matter Too
Not every future Arcade project needs to become a massive development project.
Smaller games are important.
They can:
- Release faster
- Experiment with new ideas
- Introduce characters
- Support events
- Give players quick replayable experiences
A five-minute game can still become something people repeatedly return to.
Sometimes the simplest arcade concepts are the ones that become the hardest to stop playing.
Larger Games Will Take More Time
Other concepts naturally require significantly more development.
A tactical RPG is more complicated than a matching game.
A platformer requires different systems than Package of the Dead.
The larger the game becomes, the more work goes into:
- Mechanics
- Balancing
- Art
- Menus
- Progression
- Testing
- Content
That means Zenpai Arcade will likely grow through a mixture of smaller projects and larger projects rather than waiting years between every release.
Games May Change Before Release
Everything discussed here represents the direction of the Arcade rather than a promise that every concept will launch exactly as originally imagined.
During development, games may:
- Change names
- Change mechanics
- Expand
- Become smaller
- Merge ideas
- Be delayed
- Be replaced by something better
Package of the Dead has already shown us how much an idea can change once it becomes playable.
Future games will go through the same process.
We would rather improve an idea than release something simply because an early concept existed.
Characters Can Travel Between Games
One of the most interesting possibilities for Zenpai Arcade is allowing characters to exist beyond a single title.
Akai belongs naturally inside Package of the Dead.
Other games can introduce their own personalities.
But eventually, nothing says those characters must remain completely isolated.
A character introduced as a host in one game could appear somewhere else.
An enemy could become a playable character.
A familiar face could show up unexpectedly in another Arcade title.
Those connections can gradually make the Arcade feel like one world instead of a folder filled with unrelated games.
Arcade Updates Will Follow the Development
As more projects begin moving from idea to development, Arcade Updates will continue documenting them.
Some posts may be large reveals.
Others might focus on one feature.
We may show:
- New games
- Characters
- Gameplay systems
- Development changes
- New artwork
- Beta updates
- Experiments
- Features that worked
- Features that absolutely did not
The point is to let visitors watch the Arcade grow.
Package of the Dead was simply the first project to reach that stage.
Challenges, Scores & Rewards
As the Arcade becomes larger, there is also room to explore systems that connect the games to repeat play.
Possible future ideas include:
- High scores
- Personal records
- Challenges
- Achievements
- Unlockable rewards
- Event-based goals
These systems are still areas for future exploration rather than guaranteed features for every title.
But an Arcade becomes much more interesting when there is a reason to say:
“One more run.”
And then say it twelve more times.
Community Can Become Part of the Arcade
Games also create another way for Zenpai visitors to interact with each other.
That could eventually mean things like:
- Comparing scores
- Discussing strategies
- Voting on future ideas
- Community challenges
- Sharing accomplishments
- Competing during events
The Arcade does not need to become a completely separate gaming platform.
It simply gives the Zenpai community another thing to talk about besides what figure just arrived.
Not Everything Has Been Revealed
The projects discussed here are not the complete future of Zenpai Arcade.
There are ideas we are intentionally keeping private.
Some are substantially larger than the smaller Arcade experiences currently being discussed.
Some are designed around much deeper progression and significantly more repeat play.
Those projects will get their own reveal when the time is right.
We are not spoiling everything in one blog post.
Nice try.
Package of the Dead Opened the Door
Before Package of the Dead, Zenpai Arcade was an idea.
Now there is an actual game.
An actual battlefield.
Actual enemies.
Actual progression.
And an actual path toward Beta.
That changes what comes next.
We are no longer asking:
“Could Zenpai Association have an Arcade?”
Now the question becomes:
“How far can we take it?”
More Games. More Characters. More Reasons to Return.
Package of the Dead will continue developing.
But while Akai is busy protecting the package, other parts of the Arcade can begin taking shape around her.
Some games will be quick.
Some will be strategic.
Some will be competitive.
Some will be ridiculous.
And some future projects are going to be much larger than anything we are ready to reveal today.
That is the point.
Zenpai Arcade is not supposed to be one game.
It is supposed to become a place.
Package of the Dead built the first machine.
Now we build the Arcade.
